Girls Prep D2 Poll
Kimball Union (15-4-2) moves into the #1 spot in this week’s HNIB News Girls D2 Prep poll after a week that saw the Wildcats beat Vermont Academy (3-1) and Hebron (4-2) to go 8-1-1 over their last 10. They finish the regular season Wednesday against D1 power New Hampton before the Lakes Region Tournament Friday and Saturday.
#2 Rivers (13-5-6) downed Governor’s Academy (9-4) and then were tied by Proctor (2-2) in its action this week. The Red Wings close with Lawrence Academy (Wednesday) and Southfield (Friday).
Canterbury (15-6-4) won both of its games this week over Millbrook (4-2) and D1 Winchendon (6-2). A tough final week of the regular season has Berkshire (Monday), Gunnery (Friday) and Worcester Academy (Saturday).
#4 Worcester Academy (15-6-1) has lost its last two to Holderness (2-1) and Phillips Andover (5-2) and slides down to #4. They will play Greenwich Academy on Friday prior to the key tilt with Canterbury.
#5 Gunnery (11-10-1) continues to show it will be a dangerous team in the post-season with a 6-1 win over Vermont Academy. The Highlanders take on D1 #1 Kent on Wednesday before seeing Canterbury (Friday) and Northfield (Saturday).
Thayer (15-8-3) is holding its own at #6. The Tigers broke a three-game losing streak against top D1 competition with a 6-0 win over North Yarmouth Academy. They close with Groton (Wednesday) and BB&N (Friday).
#7 Proctor (11-8-3) rallied to tie Rivers Saturday to continue its strong play (3-0-2 in its last five games). The Hornets have Southfield (Monday) in a make-up game prior to the Lakes Region Tournament.
St. George’s (9-8-2) moves into the eighth spot. The Dragons fell to Milton Academy and then beat Groton (3-0). Hoping for a chance to defend their title, St. George’s finishes with St. Paul’s (Wednesday) and Middlesex (Saturday).
