The top two seeds in the Girls Division I prep playoffs – Kent and Williston – saw their seasons end today, as both lost nail-biting one goal games.

Kent, which entered the post season at 19-0-1, lost a heartbreaker in double overtime, 2-1, to #5 Pomfret, its second straight double overtime win. #2 Williston, also unbeaten until today at 20-0-4, lost a defensive struggle to #6 St. Paul’s, 1-0, the second straight post-season shutout for the Big Red.

Makenna Newkirk has scored a lot of big goals for the Griffins this year, but none bigger that the double overtime strike that eliminated host Kent, 2-1. Lauren McMaster had Pomfret’s other goal back in the second period. Pomfret goalie Kyra Smith made some terrific saves to give the Griffins the opportunity to pull out the win. McKenzie Ebel had the lone goal for Kent.
#6 St. Paul’s 1, #2 Williston 0
In a fairly even, back-and-forth affair, St. Paul’s made a first period strike from Izzy Stoddard stand up for the win, the second straight post-season shutout for senior goaltender Kerri St. Denis.
