A great weekend of Holiday Tournament action proved at least one thing: that there may be more parity than ever in Girls Prep Division 1 hockey. As a result, this first in-season HNIB News Girls Prep Division I poll is a lot different than our pre-season edition.

And, if the first few weeks of the regular season are any indication, our next in-season poll could look well different than this one.

There are just two unbeaten teams remaining in Division I and these teams will lead the latest poll.

With their championship at the Patsy Odden Tourament, Kent (7-0-1) has vaulted to the #1 spot as the teams head into Christmas break. The Lions have allowed just eight goals all season and have shown the ability to win the close games. Kent will host Loomis Chaffee on January 14 in a looming big tilt.

An impressive showing at the Harrington Tournament, where they emerged as champions and shut out both Nobles and Westminster, Williston (5-0-2) vaults all the way to #2.  Like Kent, the Wildcats are stingy on defense, having alllowed just six goals in seven games. Williston resumes action on January 7th hosting Lawrence Academy, and has a tough one with Tabor on January 10th.

#3 Loomis Chaffee (4-1-3) has lost only to Kent thus far, and has ties with Nobles and Westminster, and a solid 5-2 win over Choate. The Pelicans look forward to another crack at Kent on the 14th of January.

It goes to show how tight it is at the top when a team like Nobles (8-2-1) gets the fourth spot in the rankings. The ‘Dawgs rallied to tie Loomis earlier this season, and have lost to Williston and Choate, but handed Pomfret its only loss. Nobles is now off until January 12th, when it tangles with Rivers, only the #1 team in HNIB’s Girls D-2 poll.

#5 Pomfret (5-1-2) has clearly shown it can play with anyone. The Griffins played Williston to a 3-3 stalemate and own a pair of wins over a good BB&N team. They will host Exeter on January 7th.

#6 St. Paul’s (9-1-0) just won its own holiday tournament and appears to rebounded from an early-season hiccup against Exeter. The team has outscored its opponents 42-10 so far this winter.

Defending NE champ Westminster (4-1-3) holds down the #7 spot. The Martlets have tied Loomis and Kent, and lost only to Williston. They return to action January 10th against Taft.

After a couple of down seasons, Phillips Andover (6-2-0) makes a showing at #8. The Big Blue beat both Choate and Tabor at the Patsy Odden Tournament before falling to Kent in the title game They have also beaten D-2 heavy Southfield and Northfield Mt. Hermon. Andover returns to action on January 7th against D-2 power Worcester Academy, then travels to Choate on the 10th.

#9 Choate (6-3-0) made a nice statement with a win over Nobles, then dropped back-to-back games at the Patsy Odden Tourament to Andover and Loomis. The Wild Boars have also lost to Pomfret. They look forward to the rematch with Andover.

#10 Tabor (5-3-0) slides down thanks to losses to Choate and Andover in tournament action. The Seawolves have also lost to Nobles. They hope to make a statement in their return to action on January 10th against Williston.
