No. 1 BFA-St. Alban’s closed the regular season with a three-win week, knocking off Burr & Burton, 6-1, Middlebury, 3-1, and South Burlington, 5-1. The defending State Champion Bobwhites seem to have all pistons firing headed into the tournament.
No. 2 Essex also finished strong with wins against Stowe, 7-2, and Spaulding, 3-1, the teams directly behind them in this poll. The Hornets will be shooting to surpass last year’s quarterfinal exit.
Ditto for No. 3 Stowe, also a quarterfinalist a year ago. The Raiders rebounded from that loss to Essex to knock off Burr & Burton, 4-1.
No. 4 Spaulding bracketed its loss to Essex with wins against Middlebury, 3-2, and CVU, 4-1. The Crimson Tide are looking to return to the title game.
All things considered, a pretty fair inaugural D1 campaign for No. 5 Burr & Burton, a D2 semifinalist last year. The Bulldogs did stick a win against U-32 in between the losses to Stowe and BFA. Five of their six defeats were to the teams ranked ahead of them.
