The 2016-17 regular season is now in the books and it’s on to the playoffs. The Massachusetts Division 1 Girls Tournament looks like a 19-team field.

The group will be led by #1  and Bay State League Carey Division champion Needham (19-0-2) and Catholic Central League champion (and defending D1 state champion) #2 Austin Prep (14-3-2).

Middlesex League Liberty Division co-champions #3 Woburn (17-2-2) and #6 Reading (16-3-1) will be teams to watch.

Perhaps the hottest team entering the post-season is Duxbury (12-4-4), all the way up to #5 in this final regular season HNIB News Mass. D1 Girls Top 10.  #4 Beverly/Danvers (17-1-3) fell from the unbeaten ranks in its final game but be sure the Panthers will be ready to go, as will MVC/Dual County Large champion #7 Westford Academy (15-3-2) and CCL runner-up #8 St. Mary’s (13-4-3).

#9 Boston Latin (17-2-3) had its best season in years and hopes to be a post-season factor, as does #10 Braintree (13-6-1), fresh off a solid performance at the recent Hingham Showcase.

Tournament pairings will be announced on Saturday. Check back with hnibnews.com for pairing and a tourney preview.
