Mass. Girls D1 Top 10
It took the entire season, but there finally is a change at the top in this, the end-of-the-season HNIB News Massachusetts Girls Division 1 Top 10.
That distinction goes to MIAA Division 1 state champion Methuen/Tewksbury (22-1-1) by virtue of its 2-1 double overtime win in the title game over #2 Austin Prep (23-1-0), supplanting the Cougars, who had held the spot since the pre-season.
Andover (19-3-1), the only team to beat the Red Rangers this year, finishes at #3. The Golden Warriors were ousted in the semifinals by Austin Prep.
Duxbury (19-1-2), upset in the post-season by #7 Shrewsbury (14-6-3), drops a bit to #4 in this final ranking. A solid post-season win, reaching the semifinals, puts Longmeadow (14-3-0) at #5.
#6 Braintree (17-5-1) was eliminated in the quarterfinal round with a 5-3 loss to Austin Prep.
