It was an ever-so quiet week in Eastern Mass. hockey circles because of Winter Storm Juno, which wiped out a good portion of games early in the week.
Play did resume later in the week and all of the teams in our Top 10 poll went through the week without a blemish, aside from a few ties. The only shakeup was a bump for No. 6 Lowell Catholic, which climbed two spots with two straight wins that got them to 10 victories.
Unbeaten No. 1 Norwell didn’t play. No. 2 Hanover was on the ice, and beat North Quincy, 5-1. The Indians have only lost once since the season-opener Dec. 13. No. 3 Watertown is still one to watch. Since losing to Stoneham, it’s gone on a five-game unbeaten streak. It beat Lexington and Wakefield this week.
No. 4 Newton South took care of its only opponent this week – Dracut. No. 5 Wayland crushed Lowell, 8-0. No. 7 Cohasset and No. 8 Abington dropped a spot each because Lowell Catholic moved up. Those teams actually played each other and tied. Cohasset also beat Rockland, while Abington topped Hull/Middleboro.
No. 9 Shawsheen and No. 10 Northeast again round out the poll. Shawsheen had an easy time with Mystic Valley, and Northeast handled Nashoba Tech.
