The Hockey Night in Boston Connecticut Division 1 boys hockey rankings have taken shape after the first couple of weeks of play. Even if that isn’t necessarily the shape a lot of people expected.

New Canaan asserted itself early in the season with wins over both Fairfield Prep and Notre Dame-West Haven, the top two preseason teams. A tie with Simsbury isn’t enough to mar the ledger, and the Rams move up to the No. 1 spot this week.

Darien also beat Fairfield Prep as part of an unbeaten start, and takes over the No. 2 spot.

No. 3 Fairfield Prep did get a couple of wins, beating Greenwich and then Ridgefield in overtime.

Now at No. 4, Notre Dame-West Haven’s only other game so far was a win over Toll Gate (R.I.).

Fairfield Warde/Ludlowe has been the early riser so far. Despite not being eligible for the CIAC tournament, the No. 5 Mustangs have D1’s only perfect record after beating Immaculate, Xavier and Amity.

Despite the tough loss to Fairfield Prep, No. 6 Ridgefield parlayed that momentum into wins over ND-Fairfield and Xavier.

Northwest Catholic enters the rankings at No. 7 after three wins as well as a tie with Darien.

Rounding out the Top 8 is Xavier, which evened its record thanks to wins over West Haven and Greenwich.
