When the top teams in the rankings square off on the ice, and fail to settle things, there’s no reason to make any changes.

So it is that Fairfield Prep and Notre Dame-West Haven hold the Nos. 1 and 2 spots, respectively, once again in this week’s Hockey Night in Boston Connecticut Division 1 rankings. NDWH was close to being in position to move back to the top, before Mason Whitney’s late extra-attacker goal rallied the Jesuits to the 2-2 draw.

It will be tough to find much difference between the teams this week, since Fairfield Prep has no scheduled games. Meanwhile, the Green Knights do face West Haven and Greenwich.

The interesting question arose as No. 3. Fairfield Warde/Ludlowe did finally suffer its first loss of the season against Ridgefield, while Darien posted wins against Greenwich and New Canaan. But it was hard to ignore that FWL did post a win and a tie head-to-head not too long ago, so the Mustangs get rewarded for their season-long body of work and hold the No. 3 spot, with the Blue Wave staying at No. 4.

Fairfield Warde/Ludlowe has another challenging week, visiting New Canaan with a home-and-home vs. Greenwich. Darien takes on Ridgefield and St. Joseph.

There is some movement in the rankings this week. After flipping spots a week ago, Xavier is back at No. 5 after a mixed bag — the Falcons beat ND-Fairfield and West Haven, lost to ND-West Haven and tied Northwest Catholic. But Greenwich, which slips back to No. 6, was upset by St. Joseph in addition to losing to Darien. The Cardinals did salvage things by beating Westhill/Stamford.

Xavier faces Northwest Catholic again this week, and Greenwich has the matchups with ND-West Haven and the Fairfield Warde/Ludlowe double-dip.

New Canaan remains at No. 7 after beating No. 8 Ridgefield and falling to Darien. The Rams have only the Fairfield Warde/Ludlowe game on the docket.

Meanwhile, Ridgefield holds the No. 8 spot thanks to the win over FWL.
