Connecticut Boys Division 1 Top 10
To be No. 1, sometimes you have to knock off No. 1, and that’s exactly what Darien did last week.
By taking down Notre Dame-West Haven by a 5-2 count Saturday, the Blue Wave move into the top spot in this week’s HNIB News Connecticut Division 1 boys hockey rankings. Next up for Darien this week are Greenwich, then a potential big showdown with Fairfield Prep.
ND-West Haven doesn’t take too big of a hit after suffering its first loss of the season, sliding back one spot to No. 2. The Green Knights take on Xavier before crossing the border for a matchup with Bishop Fenwick of Massachusetts.
Fairfield Prep stays at No. 3 after tying Notre Dame-Fairfield, though the Jesuits were thwarted by an incredible 55-save performance from Nick Piselli in that one. In addition to Darien, Fairfield Prep plays West Haven and Mount St. Charles of Rhode Island.
Xavier swept past St. Joseph and Smithfield (R.I.) to hold at No. 4. The Falcons also play Northwest Catholic this week.
No. 5 Ridgefield stayed in the same spot despite suffering a loss to LaSalle Academy (R.I.). The Tigers meet Westhill-Stamford and Staples this week.
New Canaan continues to rise in the rankings, up two spots to No. 6 after the Rams swept Staples and Northwest Catholic. They have St. Joseph and Simsbury on the slate for this week.
Hamden falls to No. 7 after a surprising 7-0 loss to Greenwich. The Green Dragons did beat Simsbury, and now gear up for Immaculate and St. Joseph.
Notre Dame-Fairfield is up to No. 8 after a 1-1-1 week, the key decision being the 3-3 tie with Fairfield Prep. The Lancers fell to Prout (R.I.) and beat St. Dominic’s (Maine) in hosting this weekend’s Lancer Beanpot, and now get ready for No. 9 Simsbury. In addition to the loss to Hamden, the Trojans beat South Windsor twice last week – the first game the conclusion of a suspended contest from December.
Fairfield Warde/Ludlowe cracks the rankings at No. 10 after sweeping past West Haven and Immaculate. The Mustangs have a busy week with Wilton, Amity and Greenwich in a four-day stretch.
