Final Connecticut Division 1 Poll

They had to replace the lion’s share of their lineup from last year’s championship. They had to deal with injuries and illness while bringing players along.
Fairfield Prep is still Fairfield Prep, though, and the Jesuits won their 16th state championship and finish atop Hockey Night in Boston’s Connecticut boys Division I poll. Their four wins in the playoffs included a 2-1 overtime win over Darien in the state final and Notre Dame-West Haven in the semifinal, two teams that had also occupied the top spot during the year.
The Jesuits’ Matt Wikman, Kenny Kochiss and Dean Lockery combined for 51 of the team’s 89 goals. The Jesuits’ three goalies, Jack Taubl, Matt Beck and Chris Gutierrez, combined to allow 48. (There was one empty-netter against the team.)
Darien knocked out Notre Dame-Fairfield, the team that had been hottest at the end of the season. New Canaan came a bounce away from, perhaps, taking Notre Dame-West Haven to overtime in the quarterfinals and had the most decisive win over Darien during the season, a 5-2 win in the FCIAC championship game. East Haven‘s stellar offense made the Yellowjackets dangerous.
Ridgefield looked like a team that had potential; it couldn’t catch a break in the first round and fell to South Windsor, while Glastonbury, Xavier and West Haven all fell early in the tournament but had some good wins along the way.
