Connecticut Division 1 Semifinals: Defending Champ Fairfield Prep, Notre Dame (WH) Reach State Final

* Defending Division 1 state champion Fairfield Prep scored a 5-2 triumph over #8 Xavier in Wednesday night’s state semifinal. The fifth-seeded Jesuits scored four goals in the first period and never looked back. They received a pair of goals from freshman Aksel Sather and single markers by Calyb ReevesAnthony Clericuzio and Jack Esse (empty netter). The Falcons, who knocked off top-ranked Ridgefield in the quarterfinal round, got back into the contest with goals from Nick LeClaire and Trevor Earley. Colin Bella added two assists for Fairfield Prep.

* Senior Michael Card found the back of the net twice, just five seconds apart, in the third period to lift #6 Notre Dame-West Haven to a narrow 3-2 victory over #2 Northwest Catholic in the night’s other Division 1 semifinal. Ian Hayden also tallied a goal for the Green Knights. ND-West Haven goaltender Connor Smith, a sophomore, made 28 saves. Brennan Horn and Nathan Loitz recorded goals for the Lions. The Green Knights will play for the state crown Tuesday night at Yale University’s Ingalls Rink.
