Can we just skip this week?

No. 1 Xavier continues to play tight, tough games against good teams, and it got taken down in OT this week by an upstartd No. 7 Suffield/Granby/Windsor Locks team playing its only Division I game in the first quarter of the season. How to make sense of the top of the division for the HNIB News Connecticut Division I top 10?

Your mileage probably varies, but keeping Xavier ahead of a strong Ridgefield team that bounced back from its Xavier loss with two wins is the hunch for the moment; the Falcons came back with an overtime win over No. 5 Hamden. The Tigers’ big win this week was a 4-2 nod over No. 3 New Canaan behind Sean Keegans’ 35 saves.

No. 4 Fairfield Prep finished third at the Mount Saint Charles Holiday Face-Off in Rhode Island, falling to the hosts in the semis but beating LaSalle of Pennsylvania. No. 6 Northwest Catholic came back from Maine with a win in the St. Dominic Academy Christmas Classic, beating Smithfield (R.I.) in the final. No. 8 Notre Dame-Fairfield won a game in that tournament.

No. 9 Notre Dame-West Haven and No. 10 Darien meet on Wednesday in West Haven. Both got their first wins this past week, Notre Dame over St. Joseph, Darien over Greenwich.
