Connecticut D2 Top 10: Watertown-Pomperaug Returns To Top Spot

In 1972, two lifetime high school hockey fans started a weekly broadcast of Greater Boston high school games on WBOS-FM (92.9). The duo - Lance LoFaro and Darby Yaeger - called the nightly broadcasts "Hockey Night in Boston". As of late, HNIBnews - over 40 years running - has kept the scholastic hockey world on its feet with its widely-read website In addition to HNIBnews, Hockey Night in Boston runs, and also hosts summer tournaments showcasing the talents of scholastic hockey.

Watertown-Pomperaug (14-3-2) had a nice week picking up wins over NFI (5-2) and McMahon-Norwalk (8-1) to move back into the #1 spot in this week’s HNIB News Connecticut D2 Top 10. W/P is off until a Saturday matchup with Amity to close out the regular season.

#2 Guilford (13-5-0) split its pair of games this week. The Indians lost to Cheshire (5-3) before storming back with a 6-5 overtime victory over Farmington Valley. The Indians will take on Westhill-Stamford on Wednesday

#3 Branford (12-3-3) earned two impressive victories over Lyman Hall (8-5) and North Haven (3-1). East Haven is on the docket for Wednesday.

#4 E.O. Smith (13-5-0) moved up the rankings following wins over Northeastern (7-3) and Newington Co-op (3-2) to make it four straight wins. A Wednesday game against the Redhawks looms.

#5 South Windsor (9-8-1) dropped down a spot losing to Cheshire (2-1) and tying East Catholic (2-2).

Up to #6 this week is Cheshire (12-4-1), which has now won four straight games. Cheshire will see Farmington Valley (Monday), New Milford (Wednesday) and Hall-Southington (Saturday) this week.
