Connecticut D2 Top 10: Branford Set To Challenge #1 Guilford Wednesday

In 1972, two lifetime high school hockey fans started a weekly broadcast of Greater Boston high school games on WBOS-FM (92.9). The duo - Lance LoFaro and Darby Yaeger - called the nightly broadcasts "Hockey Night in Boston". As of late, HNIBnews - over 40 years running - has kept the scholastic hockey world on its feet with its widely-read website In addition to HNIBnews, Hockey Night in Boston runs, and also hosts summer tournaments showcasing the talents of scholastic hockey.

#1 Guilford (11-3-0) remains atop to poll despite losing to NFI (5-3) on Saturday. The Indians have a key D2 battle with Branford on Wednesday, and then face D3’s #1 club, Daniel Hand, on Saturday.

#2 Watertown-Pomperaug (10-2-2) defeated North Haven (6-0) in their only game this past week. A tough week is in store as Indians face Daniel Hand Monday, Farmington Valley Wednesday  and Lyman Hall/H-K/Coginchaug Saturday.

#3 Branford (8-3-3) began the week with a solid win over WMRP (4- 0) before falling to Conard (3-0) on Saturday.

#4 Farmington Valley (7-4-2) had two games this past week, both versus #5 South Windsor (9-6-0). The Generals took the first meeting 3-1 before bowing in Saturday’s contest 5-0. East Catholic is the oppponent this Saturday.

#6 Glastonbury (5-3-2) beat East Catholic 6-2 and has a rematch with EC on Monday. SGWL provides Wednesday’s opposition.

After losing to a tough Branford squad earlier in the week, #7 WMRP (11-4-0) rebounded nicely by shutting out Cheshire (1-0) on Saturday.
