Connecticut Division 2 Poll
A year after North Haven tied five times, the HNIB News Connecticut Division II rankings have a whole lot of draws a couple of weeks into the season. Seven of this week’s Top 10 teams have at least one; two have two. It’s always a balanced division anyway, and the list remains close to last week’s.
No. 1 Cheshire got its first win, beating No. 8 East Haven handily, after a loss to Division I Glastonbury. The top four all faced Division I foes this week, actually, and No. 2 North Haven came out best of the bunch, coming back to tie Hamden late. No. 3 Conard fell to Glastonbury and Simsbury. No. 4 South Windsor beat East Catholic 3-1 after a win over Fermi/Enfield.
The ties begin in earnest in the middle of the poll. No. 5 North Branford gave up a late goal to tie Fairfield in a back-and-forth game. No. 6 Hand drew with Branford at 2-2, then knocked off No. 7 Guilford, 6-4.
No. 8 East Haven and No. 9 Trumbull played to a 2-2 tie; the Eagles remained unbeaten through four, beating Milford 6-2. John Therriault, a freshman playing on the top line, had three points, matching junior linemate Brady Jensen. They’ll get a test with North Branford on the road Wednesday. East Haven visits North Haven on Wednesday, too.
There are lots of good candidates for 10th, but for the moment, Milford’s 5-2 win over Branford noses out some of the others.
