Connecticut Division 2 Poll
The leaders took their first loss, the preseason favorite took a big loss, and a team that lost one early has come back with a few huge wins.
No. 1 North Haven’s loss to Simsbury doesn’t disqualify the Indians from the top spot in the HNIB News Connecticut Division II rankings; the Trojans are a solid Division I team. Of course, No. 2 Conard and No. 3 South Windsor also played the Trojans closer earlier in the year. We’ll see where this goes.
The Chieftains and Bobcats met this week, and Conard pulled out the 3-1 win to go with an 8-3 win over No. 9 New Milford. South Windsor shut out BCR 7-0. It faces No. 4 Cheshire on Monday, with the Rams coming off a 2-1 loss to New Fairfield/Immaculate.
Cheshire earlier in the week defeated No. 5 North Branford, which rebounded with a 2-1 revenge win over Suffield/Granby/Windsor Locks, the now-Division I team that beat them in the Division II final last year.
No. 6 Fairfield made noise this week, beating two Division I foes in their conference, Ridgefield and New Canaan. The Mustangs will visit a strong Division III conference rival, Staples, on Wednesday.
No. 7 Hand kept above .500 with a 3-2 win over No. 10 East Haven before falling to East Catholic 5-0. No. 8 Guilford ran its unbeaten streak to four with wins over Milford and East Haven.
No. 9 New Milford, coming off that loss to Conard, visits North Branford on Saturday after hosting E.O. Smith on Monday morning.
