Connecticut Division 2 Poll
Each of the top four teams in Hockey Night in Boston’s Connecticut Division II top 10 had a big win or two this week, though No. 3 Conard may’ve had the biggest. The Chieftains and Shea Henderson shut out No. 4 North Branford 2-0, continuing what has been a fascinating season that’s reaching its peak in the playoffs very soon.
No. 1 Fairfield beat No. 5 Cheshire 1-0 on a Mike Grace shutout and a late Jake Fuss power-play goal. The Mustangs also beat Wilton. They’ll visit Conard on Monday in a big one.
North Branford had run its winning streak to eight with a victory over East Catholic before falling to Conard. The Thunderbirds have a couple of league games this week against Hand and North Haven to finish their regular season. Cheshire, riding a five-game losing streak after also falling to Simsbury, has Hand, Guilford and West Haven.
No. 6 Guilford tied slumping No. 9 North Haven before a win over No. 8 Hand; Guilford is 10-2-2 in the past 14. Hand also fell to No. 7 New Milford in overtime this week; the Green Wave have won four out of five and face Watertown/Pomperaug and Branford in the week to come.
And though No. 10 East Haven didn’t have the toughest schedule of the week, handily beating two Division III teams, the second, a 6-0 win over Masuk, was the 400th for coach Lou Pane.
