Our preseason top-ranked team – Ridgefield – has certainly lived up to that billing so far on the young season. The Tigers are a perfect 5-0 to start the season, with all five victories over Division 1 teams. The Tigers are off until travelling to Hamden on Saturday.

Greenwich (2-0-1) slides into the #2 spot in this week’s HNIB News Connecticut D1 Top 10, coming off an impressive 3-0 decision of Darien Saturday in an outdoor game. The Cardinals get their crack at Hamden on Wednesday.

A solid 5-0 start has catapulted Northwest Catholic up to the #3 spot. NWC does have just one D1 win out of those five, but have been impressive nonetheless. They return to action Friday when they host New Canaan.

If the early going has shown anything, it is that it should be a very competitive season in Division 1. Teams are knocking each other off.

#5 Hamden has a win over #7 New Canaan, which has defeated #6 Notre Dame of West Haven, which in turn has a win over Hamden.

#4 Darien has wins over Hamden and Fairfield Prep and a solid showing Saturday against #2 Greenwich. The Blue Wave can make some noise this week, taking on Notre Dame of West Haven and Xavier.

And what to make about defending state champion Fairfield Prep? The Jesuits are 2-4 to start the season. You can be sure they will turn things around, though, and they would like to start this Saturday at Notre Dame of West Haven.

In 1972, two lifetime high school hockey fans started a weekly broadcast of Greater Boston high school games on WBOS-FM (92.9). The duo - Lance LoFaro and Darby Yaeger - called the nightly broadcasts "Hockey Night in Boston". As of late, HNIBnews - over 30 years running - has kept the scholastic hockey world on its feet with its widely-read website HNIBnews.com. In addition to HNIBnews, Hockey Night in Boston runs MassHSHockey.com, and also hosts summer tournaments showcasing the talents of scholastic hockey.
