The defending champs did it to Greenwich again, Xavier took a tumble at an odd time, a couple of old powers showed signs of stirring … and then it snowed.
Just another topsy-turvy week in the HNIB News Connecticut Top 10, starting at the top: David Voigt’s shutout helped No. 1 Darien past now No. 2 Greenwich 3-0 and back into the top spot. The Blue Wave also knocked off No. 6 St. Joseph 5-3, though they had to come from behind to do that.
No. 3 Notre Dame-West Haven and No. 4 Xavier both lost this week, the latter a little more surprisingly. Xavier lost to New Canaan 5-1 in its first game of the week. Notre Dame fell to Bishop Hendricken of Rhode Island.
No. 5 Simsbury needed overtime but got past East Catholic 3-2 on Jake Arnold’s goal. No. 7 Notre Dame-Fairfield wasn’t so lucky, falling to Hamden, its third loss in five games.
No. 8 Northwest Catholic didn’t play but has a busy week to come, with strong Divison II South Windsor and Conard before a showdown with Simsbury on Saturday.
No. 9 Fairfield Prep came back from a layoff with a win over West Haven; it’ll get a test against Xavier on Wednesday. No. 10 Glastonbury didn’t play this week and faces Notre Dame-Fairfield on Monday.
New Canaan, which followed its big win with a loss to Ridgefield, gets its first crack at Darien on Saturday; Ridgefield gets its chance at the Blue Wave on Wednesday. Hamden faces Notre Dame-West Haven on Monday and Simsbury on Wednesday.
