No. 1 Xavier hangs on to the top spot in the HNIB News Connecticut D1 Top 10, picking up three good wins this week and avenging its only in-state loss so far. The Falcons capped the week with a 5-2 win over Suffield/Granby/Windsor Locks, the team that took them down in overtime, and also beat Simsbury, 4-1.

The Falcons also defeated No. 3 New Canaan, which won its next two, and was to face No. 2 Ridgefield on Monday, but it was postponed by weather. Ridgefield beat Fairfield and No. 10 West Haven this week.

No. 4 Northwest Catholic rebounded from its first loss with three wins this week, including a thriller against No. 8 Notre Dame-Fairfield. Lions’ freshman Brennan Horn scored on an overtime penalty shot for a 4-3 win.

The only real shift in the ranking this week comes because of No. 5 Notre Dame-West Haven’s 5-2 win over Hamden. The Green Knights also beat Rhode Island’s Bishop Hendricken solidly, while Hamden got a 4-3 win of its own over Notre Dame-Fairfield this week.

Hamden is part of a big upcoming week for No. 7 Fairfield Prep, which hosts Xavier on Wednesday and the Green Dragons on Saturday. The Jesuits handled West Haven 5-0.

No. 9 Darien, in an easier part of its schedule, got a couple of wins to run its winning streak to three.
