CMass/WMass Highlights: Littleton Ties Up Fitchburg

Central Mass

Danny Angell, Dan Paxton and Christopher Bergers scored one goal apiece to help Littleton tie Fitchburg, 3-3. Max Beaulac had a pair of goals for Fitchburg and Anthony Lesperance added two assists.

Marcus Christafideis scored 4:08 into the final period to help Marlborough slip past Nashoba, 4-2.  Jerry McCarthy and Tino Pizzarella scored first period goals. Joe Fontaine and Dan Lemanski scored for Nashoba.

* Despite 21 saves by Cam Powell, Grafton dropped a 1-0 decision to Western Mass. power Westfield.

Hunter Dunn had one goal and assist to help Hopedale beat Agawam, 4-1 in an independent game.  Nick Patterson contributed two assists.

Western Mass

Riley Drew had a 24-save shutout as Greenfield blanked Assabet Valley, 2-0. Sean O’Sullivan and Kyle Barnes had one goal apiece for the Green Wave.

Darren Buteau and Alec Zukowski each scored one goal to help West Springfield earn a 2-2 tie with Oakmont. Terriers goalie Casey Bridges finished with 27 saves.
Nicholas Saracinco scored two goals and set up two others to lead East Longmeadow to a 9-1 triumph over Gardner. Jack Towsley, Michael Moynihan and Noah Jacques also had two goals apiece.

*Steve Mushenko scored four goals and set up another to power Minnechaug past Chicopee Comp, 8-1. Dominic Terzi had two goals and four assists.

Fran Sypek

Fran Sypek

Fran has covered hockey at all levels, NHL, AHL, junior, college and high school for the Springfield Republican from 1978-2013. His column "Hockey Talk'' appeared in the Sunday Republican. The hockey beat took him from Maine to Arizona in the United States and from Newfoundland to Alberta in Canada. Fran was the recipient of the Matthew Ryan Award for Outstanding Coverage of High School Hockey and the Janet McCormick Award from the Springfield Olympics. He then shifted from pros to college when the University of Massachusetts restored its program and joined Hockey East. Later, he continued covering the Boston Bruins and the Springfield Falcons. Fran's covered future NHL players from Western Massachusetts in Paul Fenton, Bob Kudelski, Rick Bennett and Bill Guerin. He is a member of the Bessone Award committee, which helps select the top high school hockey player in Western Mass. Fran was a goalie for Holyoke Community College in 1973-74 and graduated from the University of Massachusetts in 1977. Fran is currently a free lance writer living in Bondsville, Mass and grew up in Chicopee, Mass, has visited all 50 states, and is an avid photographer.
