No. 1 Shrewsbury, the reigning state Division III champion, has started the season by capturing seven of its first eight games. Unbeaten No. 2 North Middlesex is a solid 4-0-1.
No. 3 Wachusett picked up an independent win over Western Mass. champion Westfield. No. 5 Oakmont bumped No. 6 Leominster from the top five and remains unbeaten. No. 10 Fitchburg moves into the poll this week.
Highlights
– Joe Buduo followed up on his first career hat trick with a pair of goals as Shrewsbury slipped past Algonquin, 4-3, in the sixth annual High School Hockey Showdown at the DCU Center.
– Rocco Malloy had a pair of goals and Trevor Currin made 27 saves to record his first varsity victory to spark Hudson past Wachusett, 3-2.
– Sam Luukko had two goals and set up another to lift Northbridge to a 4-2 win over Grafton.
– Tyler Belliveau and Ben Tolman each scored twice to Fitchburg to a 9-0 triumph over Gardner.
Nashoba is 5-3
