SPRINGFIELD CATHEDRAL (17-3-3)
This much is certain – there is no more experienced team in Massachusetts than Cathedral. The Panthers graduated a single player from last season’s 1A semifinalist and return a treasure trove of talent, including six Division One commits and counting.
The offense ranks among the most explosive the Bay State has seen in quite some time, driven by seniors Peter Crinella (31-28-59, Holy Cross) and DJ Petruzzelli (21-35-56, Quinnipiac), junior Johnny Leonard (29-23-52, UMass) and sophomore Riley Prattson (16-30-46, Providence). Senior Zac Prattson (23 points) and sophomore Devon Tongue (11 goals) add to the incendiary mix.
A shutdown defense features sophomore goaltender Keith Petruzzelli (Quinnipiac), who won 13 of 15 starts while posting a 1.60 gaa a year ago; and sophomore defenseman Dan Petrick (5-28-33), who’s headed for Northeastern. Seniors Bryce Peritz and Matt Cieboter and junior Cam Griffin complete the top four on defense.
ST. JOHN’S SHREWSBURY (11-6-7)
The Pioneers thrived under new coach Mike Mead a year ago and will look to continue the forward momentum. Success will depend upon the development of a re-tooled defense and new goaltender.
The Pioneers will look to a talented group of forwards to lead the way. Seniors Patrick Storer (12-13-25), Kevin Quinlivan (10-14-24) and Garrett Lehan (5-12-17) and junior Chris Stalmok (10-7-17) will look to build upon their productive campaigns of a season ago. Junior Alex Franchi and Matt Mongeau will split time in goal while Brendan Doherty, Jared Ward and Tim Oger lead the defense. Sophs Justin Storer (F), Adam Romano (D) and Billy Zegras (D) add to the mix.
ST. PETER-MARIAN (6-14-0)
The Guardians gained valuable experience last season and Coach Brian Allain will lean on that core to continue moving forward. Sophomore goalie Nathan Pickett is a steadying influence and enjoyed a solid rookie season.
Sophomore Nick Pennucci (12-8-20), freshman Nick Palermo (6-8-14) and junior Conor Leonard return at forward. Senior Matt Panarelli will lead the defense. Look for freshman defenseman Cody Digregorio, sophomore forward Cole Archanbeault and freshman forward Jack Quinn to have an impact.
