Boys Prep Top 15: St. Sebastian’s Makes A Big Statement

The last undefeated team in prep school hockey is no more. One of the hottest teams in New England, St Sebastian’s, made sure of that, in a big way.

The Arrows took on Lawrence Academy in a big Keller Division showdown and made a big statement, rolling to a 9-2 win led by a Liam Connors hat trick. Coupled with wins over Belmont Hill (5-2) and Hoosac (6-3), St Sebastian’s has won nine straight and moves to #4 in this week’s HNIB News Boys Prep Top 15. This week, the Arrows will take on Tabor (Wednesday) and Governors Academy (Saturday).

Meanwhile, Salisbury (21-4-1) remains firm at #1. The Knights beat Taft (7-1), then pulled away in the third period Saturday to down Loomis Chaffee (6-3). Avon Old Farms is next this Saturday.

Red-hot Dexter Southfield (16-3-4) is up to #2 following a 4-1 verdict of New Hampton. Berwick (Wednesday), Winchendon (Friday) and Kents Hill (Saturday) are on this week’s docket.

#3 Kimball Union (23-5-1) had to settle for a 4-4 tie with Holderness Saturday as the Bulls scored in the final minute. The Wildcatas also edged Andover (5-4) and beat New Hampton (5-2). Another big game looms Wednesday with Proctor. Then, back-to-back games with Cushing (Friday, Saturday).

With their first loss, Lawrence Academy (14-1-6) is at #5. The Spartans did beat Thayer (5-1) and St. Paul’s (2-1). They also have a three-game week with Governors (Wednesday), BB&N (Friday) and St. Mark’s (Saturday).

#6 Gunnery (19-4-1) had a three-win week, downing Avon Old Farms (5-2), Brunswick (4-3) and Lawrenceville (6-4). This week the Highlanders will see Canterbury (Monday), Pomfret (Wednesday) and Brunswick again (Friday).

Northfield (17-5-2) is up to #7, taking down Williston (3-2), Worcester Academy (8-1) and tying Winchendon (2-2). The  Hoggers take on Exeter is a key game Wednesday, then have weekend dates with Loomis Chaffee (Saturday) and Choate (Sunday).

Also on the rise is #8 Westminster (12-5-3). The Martlets followed a tie with Hotchkiss (2-2) with victories over Choate (3-0) and Pomfret (2-0). Loomis Chaffee (Wednesday) and Berkshire (Saturday) are up this week.

#9 Tilton (17-5-0) dropped a 6-3 decision to Holderness. The Rams look to get back on track this week against Brewster Academy Wednesday and Hebron (Saturday).

#10 Deerfield (12-7-1) suffered a tough 2-1 loss to Avon in the final seconds, after beating Loomis Chaffee (5-3). The Big Geeen looks for a few more wins against Taft (Wednesday), Williston (Friday) and a big one with Exeter on Saturday.
