Boys Prep Top 15
Salisbury, Gunnery and Avon Old Farms remain unchanged in the top three positions in this week’s HNIB News Boys Prep Top 15. All three picked up impressive wins over the past week.
The #1 Crimson Knights (12-2-0) made it 10 straight wins with victories over Cushing (5-2) and Westminster (8-3). As expected they have been getting production from a variety of sources. They have a three-game homestand this week, with Choate (Monday), Trinity Pawling (Wednesday) and Kent (Saturday).
#2 Gunnery (13-2-1) scored 19 goals in wins over Taft, Hoosac and Stanstead College. Alex Jefferies and Robert Cronin have led a prolific scoring attack. This week, the Highlanders get Trinity Pawling (Monday), Millbrook (Wednesday) and Williston (Saturday), all at home as well.
The #3 Winged Beavers (9-2-1) dispatched Hotchkiss (3-1) and Kent (5-1). Senior Stefan Miklakos has scored some key goals this year for Avon, who take on Northfield Mt. Hermon on Wednesday and Berkshire on Saturday.
Whatever funk Kimball Union (14-4-0) was in early in the season is a distant memory. The surging Wildcats are back up to #4 after a week that saw them beat Vermont Academy, Governors Academy and St. Paul’s by a combined 22-1. Czech Republic native Stefan Mizura has been hugely productive. This week, KUA is at Deerfield (Wednesday), then hosts Brewster Academy (Friday) and Stanstead College (Saturday).
Up two notches to #5 is Lawrence Academy, which is still unbeaten at 8-0-4. The Spartans drilled Nobles (8-2) and downed Thayer. Junior Sam Colangelo continues to impress up front.
Tilton (11-2-0) drops a bit to #6 after falling to Phillips Andover (3-2). The Rams rebounded by blanking Vermont Academy 7-0. They have three Lakes Division contests this week with Holderness (Monday), Brewster Academy (Wednesday) and Proctor (Saturday). Junior defenseman Jagger Benson has been heavily involved offensively. Senior Brendan Sjostedt leads the club in goals.
#7 Dexter Southfield (8-3-3) looks back on track. Most recent was a 6-3 win over New Hampton. Three juniors – Chase McInnis, Aidan Connolly and Ben Raymond – have led coach Dan Donato’s attack. Dexter has a big game on Wednesday at Phillips Andover.
#8 St. Sebastian’s (11-4-0) had a 6-1 win over BB&N, but were upended Saturday by Tabor (6-3). The Arrows have the week off, back in action at Governors Academy Saturday.
The loss to KUA not withstanding, St. Paul’s (9-4-1) moves up t0 #9. The play of senior goalie Andy Beran has been a big reason for the success of the Pelicans this year. They host Nobles Wednesday, #12 Andover Friday and Academie St. Louie Saturday.
#10 Rivers (10-4-2) has won four straight, including a 9-3 win Saturday over St. Mark’s. The Red Wings have two games this week, at Brooks (Wednesday) and at BB&N (Saturday).
Re-entering the Boys Prep rankings this week is Phillips Exeter (10-4-2) at #11. The Big Red knocked off Brooks, Governors Academy and Phillips Andover to the tune of 16-1.
