Boys Prep Top 15: Big games on tap this week

The top three continued their impressive seasons with a solid week of play and thus remain in place in this week’s HNIB News Boys Prep Top 15 poll.

#1 Salisbury (13-0-1), a spot it has held since the pre-season, remained unbeaten with solid wins over Choate (4-0) and Trinity Pawling (6-1). The Crimson Knights will be tested Wednesday against Gunnery, and have Berkshire on Saturday.

#2 Exeter (16-1-1) had its offense held in check, relatively speaking, but nonetheless picked up a pair of wins over Tabor (3-2 OT) and Hotchkiss (3-1). The Big Red will certainly be tested this week taking on Top 10 foes Kimball Union (Wednesday) and Cushing (Friday). Exeter also has BB&N Saturday.

#3 Rivers (15-1-2) kept pace with shutout wins over Brooks and BB&N. The Red Wings have a three-game week ahead with Roxbury Latin (Wednesday), Nobles (Friday) and Middlesex (Saturday).

A loss to Stanstead College Prep Saturday (3-2) won’t hurt #4 Kimball Union (17-4-1), which also had wins over Deerfield (6-1) and Brewster Academy (2-0). After Exeter, the Wildcats have Tilton Friday.

#5 Milton Academy (11-2-1) had a win over Lawrence Academy and is now off until January 31 when they battle St. Sebastian’s.

A 6-1 win over Thayer was the lone action this past week for Dexter Southfield (10-4-2) as it moves to #6. St George’s (Wednesday) and St. Mark’s (Saturday) are on this week’s docket.

#7 Cushing (14-5-1) lost their game against Thayer, and then rebounded with a 7-3 win over Hebron. Two tough ones this week for the Penguins: Northfield (Wednesday) and Exeter (Friday).

#8 Gunnery (11-5-2) posted wins over Millbrook (3-2) and Williston (2-1). The Highlanders look forward to their crack against Salisbury (Wednesday) and will see Vermont Academy (Friday) and Hill (Saturday).

#9 Northfield (15-2-3) had a great week with wins over Avon Old Farms (3-2), Lawrenceville (7-1) and Taft (2-1). The Hoggers look ahead to Cushing (Wednesday) and Tilton (Sunday).

The offense for #10 St. Sebastian’s (10-5-1) exploded with wins over Andover (9-2) and Governors Academy (10-1). Nobles (Wednesday), Thayer (Friday) and Hoosac (Saturday) are on this week’s docket.

Rounding out this week’s rankings are #11 Avon Old Farms (8-5-1), #12 Winchendon (8-3-3), #13 Williston (9-5-2), #14 Kent (5-3-4) and #15 Westminster (7-5-0).
