Boys Prep Hockey Highlights: Top Teams Survive Close Games

All five top teams in this week’s HNIB News Boys Prep Top 15 won Wednesday. Four of those five games, however, were nailbiters.

* #1 Lawrence Academy got all it could handle with Belmont Hill, as goals by Riley Duran and Damien Carfagna gave the Spartans a 2-1 win.

* #2 Salisbury edged Trinity Pawling, 5-4, with two goals from Cole Vallese and singletons out of Lucas Mercuri, Calum Chau and Cole Eichler.

* #3 Avon Old Farms needed overtime to get past rival Westminster, 4-3. Nick Cyprian notched the game-winner for the Winged Beavers. J.P. Turner, Tabor Heaslip and Drew Tsakounis each had a goal as well.

Zach Whitehead
Kimball Union

* #5 Dexter Southfield trimmed Pomfret, 3-1, not resting easy until Matt Fusco‘s empty-netter in the waning seconds. Jack Dempsey and Mikey Adamson each had goals as well.

* Kimball Union, this week’s #4 team, did blank Northfield Mt. Hermon , 6-0, with Sullivan Mack getting two goals and Paul Dore, Zach Whitehead, Connor Chalmers and Donte Pierre once apiece.

* Red-hot Hotchkiss downed Choate, 3-1, as Gavin Puskar kept us his torrid pace with two more goals. Jon Horn had the other Bearcats tally.

Jack Simon

* Danny Colon (2-3) and Michael Young (1-4) each had five-point games as Phillips Exeter downed Holderness, 6-1. Defenseman Jack Simon contributed two goals to the cause.

* Goals by Cole Jenkins, Will Halecki, Morgan Winters and Mike Leone powered Tabor to a 4-1 victory over Governor’s Academy.

New Hampton

* Alton Machen‘s second goal of the game, in overnight, gave Deerfield a 3-2 win over Phillips Andover. Alex Robert also had a goal and Justin Prete was solid between the pipes.

* Two goals from Isaac MacLeod and singles from Ryan Mahlmeister, Ronny Paragallo, Cole Hipkin and Rhys Jones led New Hampton past St. Paul’s 6-2 in the Lakes Region.

Mike Tersoni

* Mike Tersoni scored twice and assisted on two others as Tilton doubled up Berwick 6-3. The Rams also got goals from James Cates (3 assists), Jagger Benson, Max Cocchi and Jack Seymour.

* Jack Cronin had two more goals, giving him seven in two games, as Nobles kept its winning ways going with a 4-2 win over Thayer. Casey Severo and Pierce Kenney also had goals as well.
