2013 Girls Showcase Championship – TeamONE defeats Minnesota 4-3

In a thrilling championship game that went right down to the last few seconds, TeamONE dethroned two-time defending champion Minnesota, hanging on for  a 4-3 win in Hockey Night In Boston’s 2013 Girls Summer Showcase.

Undefeated Minnesota was pressing in the game’s final moments for the tying goal when TeamONE goalie Kerri St. Denis slid across the crease to thwart a wrap-around attempt. St. Denis lost her stick, but still was able to make another point blank save with the stick of teammate Sarah Robello. With just two seconds left, defenseman Jackie Guy was able to block another shot attempt during a scramble with the net open.

TeamONE’s jumped out to a 2-0 lead. Nicole Arnold had the first goal, taking a pass from Jessie Jacques and able to deke the Minnesota goalie and score while down on the ice. Jacques had TeamONE’s second goal, deflecting home a Guy shot from the point.

Robello scored TeamONE’s third goal with a well-placed wrist shot from the left wing side.

The eventual game-winning goal came in the third period. Ellen Chiligiris raced down the slot and fired a shot. The save was made, and the rebound popped up in the air, where Chiligris deftly was able to bat it home waist high.

Minnesota had defeated TeamONE in the 2012 Championship game with a 3-1 victory.
