While the top seven teams all held serve this past week, there was some movement at the lower end of this week’s HNIB News Massachusetts Girls D1 Top 10, including two new entrants.

#1 Austin Prep (16-0-1) had its much anticipated showdown with #3 St. Mary’s (14-2-0) postponed due to weather. The game is now this Wednesday at Connery Rink in Lynn at 8 pm. The Cougars did however, flex their muscles in Saturday’s 4-0 win over two-time defending D2 state champ Notre Dame Academy.

#2 Woburn (15-0-2) had a little blip on its radar, settling for a 2-2 tie Saturday with Reading after jumping out to a two-goal lead. The Tanners look to regroup this week with games against Lexington (Wednesday) and Winchester (Saturday).

St Mary’s heads into Wednesday’s battle after rolling to wins over Beverly/Danvers (5-0) and Arlington Catholic (9-1). The Spartans also travel to D2 #4 Archbishop Williams Saturday.

#4 Methuen/Tewksbury (15-1-0) rolls along. The Red Rangers blanked Westford Academy (4-0) Saturday for their tenth straight win, having allowed just eight goals during that span. A busy week see M/T take on Billerica/Chelmsford (Monday), Andover (Wednesday) and Acton-Boxboro (Saturday).

#5 Shrewsbury (15-0-1) had wins over Longmeadow (5-2) and Beverly/Danvers (8-1). The Colonials face two tough opponents this week, seeing Winthrop (Thursday) and Natick (Saturday).

#6 Duxbury (13-2-1) blanked Falmouth (2-0) in its only action. The Green Dragons see Falmouth again (Wednesday), and take on Walpole (Thursday) and Canton (Saturday).

Wins over Sandwich (6-1) and Norwell (4-1) highlighted the week for #7 Barnstable (13-1-4). The Red Raiders face Latin Academy/Fontbonne Wednesday.

Masconomet (11-3-1) moves up to #8, downing Algonquin/Hudson in its only match of the week. Looking ahead, the Chieftains get Beverly/Danvers (Tuesday) and a rematch with Algonquin/Hudson (Saturday).

New entrants to this week’s rankings include Melrose (13-2-1) at #9 and Haverhill/Pentucket/North Andover (10-4-1) at #10.

The Red Raiders knocked off Watertown (5-1) and have Wakefield (Wednesday) and Burlington (Saturday) this week. HPNA is coming off an impressive win (4-1) over Andover. They will have a very busy week, with Matignon (Monday), Acton-Boxboro (Tuesday), Billerica/Chelmsford (Wednesday) and Westford Academy (Saturday).
