It was an up-and-down week for many teams in this latest installment of the HNIB News Massachusetts Boys Division 2 Top 15. While the top echelon fared well and remained intact, there was plenty of movement elsewhere.

Canton (6-1-4) holds on to the #1 spot after getting a tie with D1 Newburport (1-1) and beating Stoughton (9-1).  The Bulldogs will have a couple of tests with North Attleboro (Monday) and Bishop Feehan (Saturday).

#2 Danvers (10-1-0) had a gut-check win over Northeastern Conference foe Medford (4-3) Saturday, rallying from a two-goal deficit to take firm control of the league race and officially clinch a post-season berth in the process. The Falcons play just once this week, a Wednesday tussle with Marblehead.

#3 Lowell Catholic (4-3-1) got two games in this past week, beating Cardinal Spellman (11-1) and St. John Paul II (4-0) in league play to move over the .500 mark. The Crusaders stay in the league this week with St. Joseph Prep (Wednesday) and Spellman again (Saturday). A postponed date with Matignon will now be played Sunday, January 28.

Solid wins over Saugus (6-0) and Wakefield (4-2) keep #4 Stoneham (7-2-1) rolling. The Spartans take on Woburn (Wednesday) and Winchester (Saturday) this week.

#5 Lincoln-Sudbury (8-3-0) dropped a 5-1 decision to D1’s #1 club Central Catholic in its only game, as a key MVC/Dual County II tilt with North Andover was postponed (rescheduled for this Tuesday). The Warriors also take on Haverhill (Saturday).

A big win over Masconomet Saturday (4-1) moves Lynnfield (8-2-1) up to #6. The Pioneers will have plenty of rest before seeing Amesbury (Saturday).

The #7 Chieftains (5-2-2) did beat Beverly (4-3). They have Cape Ann League battles with Amesbury (Wednesday) and Triton (Saturday) on the docket.

Despite a loss to D1 Andover early in the week, Boston Latin (6-3-1) moves up to #8. A tough week for the Wolfpack has Medford (Monday) and then North Andover (Saturday).

Three one-goal wins over Bishop Stang (3-2), Plymouth North (4-3) and Quincy (2-1) help catapult Plymouth South (10-1-1) up to #9 this week. The Panthers also have key upcoming tilts, seeing D1 Duxbury (Wednesday) and Scituate (Saturday).

Look who is back in the Mass. D2 rankings, as Medfield (8-2-2) reappears at #10. The Warriors had solid wins over Bishop Feehan (3-2), Ashland (5-2) and Dedham (6-1) and have allowed just 15 goals in 12 games. They are off until Saturday when a key Tri-Valley League clash with Hopkinton looms.

This week’s Top 15 will be rounded out by #11 North Andover (6-3-2), #12 Beverly (8-4-2), #13 Medway (8-4-0), #14 Winthrop (6-4-1) and #15 Tewksbury (8-4-2).
