There are a few changes in this week’s first in-season HNIB News Mass. Girls D1 Top 10.

Not at the top, where preseason #1 Austin Prep (4-0-0) has outscored its four opponents by a 28-1 margin. The Cougars have the week off, not returning to game play until a December 31 battle with D2 power Wellesley.

Fellow Catholic Central League foe St. Mary’s (4-0-0) jumps up to the #2 position this week. The Spartans, who host Lincoln-Sudbury on Saturday, have oustscored their opponents 28-2.

#3 Duxbury (4-0-0) has had a great start as well. The Dragon already have 30 goals on the young season. They travel to Haverhill on Thursday for a matinee game with HPNA.

Andover

The biggest mover is #4 Andover (4-0-0). The Golden Warriors slide up from the ninth position after Saturday’s huge 3-0 conquest of #5 Methuen/Tewksbury. They have yet to allow a goal this season with a defense backboned by senior goalie Sean D’Urso. Andover will tackle Braintree Wednesday in the first round of the Boston Latin Christmas Tournament.

Prior to the loss, the Red Rangers looked impressive in three wins to start the season. They host Central Catholic on Saturday.

#6 Masconomet (1-0-1) hasn’t played in eight days, but has a busy week ahead with a 3M week, seeing Medford (Wednesday), Melrose (Friday) and Marblehead (Saturday).

New to this week’s rankings is Reading (4-0-0) at #7. The Rockets posted a solid 5-1 win over #8 Arlington (4-1-0) on Saturday and look like they are for real. Senior Cat Paradis has nine goals already on the young season. Next up? A January 2 showdown with St. Mary’s.

Arlington

The Spy Ponders are also a team to be reckoned with, owning a win over Wellesley. Senior Erin O’Brien leads the attack with eight goals. They are off until a January 5 date with Woburn.

#9 Braintree (2-1-0), which suffered its first loss to Notre Dame, will see Hingham on Saturday after taking part in the Boston Latin Christmas Tournament.

Needham (3-0-1) checks in at #10. The Rockets are off until January 2 when they take on Milton.
