With just two weeks to go in the regular season in Girls Prep hockey, the question may be “Who is not going to earn a spot in the eight-team D1 playoff field?” rather than who is going to qualify.

While there are some teams that, if they continue to play their game, won’t need to worry about qualifying, there are others that need to come up with some key wins down the stretch. And, there are still a handful of key games amongst contenders that will play a major role in who gets in and who doesn’t.

If #1 Kent (15-1-0) continues to play as it has, the Lions will not only qualify, but have to be deemed a favorite. The Lions had wins over Canterbury (7-0) and Millbrook (9-1). This week, they get Hotchkiss on Wednesday.

Loomis Chaffee (14-3-1) moves up to #2 after a win over Choate (4-0). The Pelicans have Pomfret Wednesday, then host Williston Saturday in one of those key games.

#3 Nobles (18-2-3) needed a late goal for a 1-1 tie with BB&N, then blanked Westminster (2-0). The ‘Dawgs have huge battles this week with Andover (Wednesday) and Tabor (Saturday) that have playoff implications. They also see Thayer on Friday.

Tabor (16-4-0) climbs to #4 thanks to Friday’s huge 3-2 win over #5 St. Paul’s (13-4-3). The Seawolves, who also shut out Governors Academy (7-0), get Middlesex Monday and BB&N Wednesday.

St. Paul’s, which blanked Pomfret (6-0) Saturday, looks ahead to Exeter (Wednesday) and Winchendon (Saturday).

#6 Taft (15-4-0) squeezed past Hotchkiss (1-0) on Saturday. The Rhinos have Westminster (Wednesday) and Choate (Saturday).

#7 Phillips Andover (12-4-1) and #8 Williston (11-5-3) played to a scoreless tie Saturday as both are fighting for post-season bids. The Big Blue have a busy week; after Nobles on Wednesday, they play Milton Academy (Friday) and Worcester Academy (Saturday), two more tough games.

The Wildcats host Northfield (Wednesday) before Saturday’s key tilt against Loomis Chaffee.

#9 New Hampton (18-7-0) suffered a loss to Exeter Saturday (3-2), after beating Brewster (6-1). The defending D1 champs have three D2 teams on tap this week in Dexter Southfield (Wednesday), Berwick (Friday) and Kents Hill (Saturday).

The tie with Nobles was key for #10 BB&N (12-7-2), which also beat St. George’s (1-0). In addition to Wednesday’s biggie with Tabor, the Knights get Lawrence Academy (Friday) and St. Mark’s (Saturday).
