It appears that winter break has not cooled off #1 Vermont Academy (12-0-1) much, if at all. The Wildcats returned to action with wins over Holderness (4-1) and Greenwich Academy (5-1) to remain unbeaten and keep the top spot in this week’s HNIB News Girls D2 Prep Top 10.

The Wildcats have a big D2 clash Wednesday with Gunnery, then will play Pingree (Friday) and Millbrook (Saturday).

Worcester Academy is firmly entrenched at #2, returning from break with a 5-0 whitewashing of Middlesex (A Friday game with St Mark’s was postponed). The Hilltoppers play Exeter (Wednesday), Groton (Friday) and Portsmouth Abbey (Saturday).

A key 3-2 win Saturday over Rivers catapults Brooks (5-0-3) up to #3. Quinn Healy had all three goalsl in the win for the Bishops, who face D1 powers Phillips Andover (Monday), Tabor (Wednesday) and Lawrence Academy (Saturday) in a tough week.

That loss drops Rivers (5-2-0) to #4. The Red Wings will battle Nobles (Monday), St. George’s (Wednesday) and then Winchendon (Saturday).

#5 Gunnery (3-3-0) blanked St. George’s (2-0) on Saturday and jumps a spot, looking ahead to top-ranked Vermont Academy on Wednesday. The Highlanders also take on Hoosac (Friday) and Williston (Saturday).

#6 Canterbury (10-2-1) lost its first two games of the season at the Winchendon New Year’s Tournament, then headed to New Hampshire where it tied Kimball Union and beat Tilton 2-1. The Saints get Millbrook (Wednesday) and Greenwich Academy (Friday).

A 4-2 win over Tilton and 1-1 standoff with D1 Northfield keeps Proctor (7-4-1) at #7. The Hornets are scheduled to take on Winchendon (Wednesday) and Hebron (Saturday).

#8 St. George’s stays put, its only action the loss to Gunnery. The Dragons have the Rivers matchup Wednesday and see Dexter Southfield Friday.

Back in the rankings this week at #9 is Kimball Union (6-2-2) after a solid week that saw the tie with Canterbury and wins over Brewster Academy  (3-0) and Millbrook (5-1). The Wildcats face off with Stanstead College (Wednesday) and Holderness (Saturday).

Groton (5-2-2) is #10. The Zebras downed Pingree (7-2) and lost a tough one to BB&N (3-2). North Yarmouth Academy is Wednesday’s opponent, the Worcester (Friday) amd Milton Academy (Saturday).
