Some familiar faces remain in the first in-season HNIB News Girls D2 Prep Top 8, and some new faces have crashed the party. It all could make for an interesting next two months.

Two teams remain unbeaten as the teams head into holiday break, and those two clubs move to the top of the line. Will they be there in early January? Too early to tell.

Key early-season wins over D1 power St. Paul’s and Kimball Union have vaulted Rivers (5-0-1) to the #1 spot, a tick ahead of #2 Canterbury (7-0-1), which outscored its opponents by an amazing 24-1 margin in its seven wins before tying Tilton 2-2 this past Saturday.

Preseason #1 Worcester Academy (6-2-0) appears to have righted the ship, ripping off three impresive shutout wins over Cushing, Brewster Academy and Winchendon at the Watkins Tournament after falling to both Thayer and Groton. The Hilltoppers stand at #3 this week.

Don’t look at #4 Gunnery‘s (4-4-0) overall mark. The Highlanders are a perfect 4-0 in Division 2 play. Losses have come to D1 opponents Westminster and Kent, both by one-goal, as well as to Canadian teams Stanstead Prep and Rothesay-Netherwood.

#5 Brooks (2-2-1) also has not lost in Division 2. The Bishops losses have come to BB&N and Exeter. They will be at the Exeter New Year’s Showcase.

Thayer has come out of the blocks with an impressive 6-1-1 record to move into the #6 spot. The Tigers have a big win over Worcester Academy, a win over Groton and a split with Vermont Academy.

#7 Kimball Union (5-2-0) is making its presence known, already with wins over Proctor, Tilton, Groton and Southfield. The Wildcats have lost only to Rivers and D1 Northfield.

Proctor (3-2-2) hangs in to the poll at #8. Their other loss, besides Kimball Union, is to D1 power New Hampton. The Hornets own ties with Tilton and Vermont Academy.

Teams looking to crack the next poll include Southfield, Vermont Academy, Holderness, Tilton and Governors Academy. All are off to good starts as well.
