This past Saturday saw Girls Prep action return in full force. It included an early-season showdown between the top two teams.

When it was over, #1 Kent (10-0-0) held on for a 1-0 win over then #2 Nobles to further cement it status at the top of this first HNIB News Girls Division 1 Prep Top 10. Julia Nearis had the game’s lone goal. Another showdown looms Wednesday for the Lions when they tackle red-hot Loomis Chaffee. Lawrenceville is Saturday’s opponent.

With the above result, Tabor (8-1-0) moves into the #2 spot, especially with Saturday’s result, a big 2-1 win over Williston with Ashley Clark getting the winning goal. An interesting matchup comes up Wednesday with D2’s third-ranked team, unbeaten Brooks, and then again Saturday against New Hampton.

#3 Nobles (7-2-1) may have come out on the short end Saturday, but don’t overlook on this team. The ‘Dawgs face Rivers (Monday), Middlesex (Wednesday) and Berkshire (Saturday) in a busy week.

#4 St. Paul’s opened up 2018 with a trip to New Jersey, coming home with wins over Lawrenceville (4-0) and Hill School (5-1). The Pelicans look ahead to BB&N (Wednesday) and Andover (Saturday), no pushovers.

#5 New Hampton (9-2-0) returned to action with an 11-0 win over Albany Academy as Caelin Flaherty scored four goals. The Huskies will be busy with games this week against Holderness (Monday), BB&N (Friday) and then the Tabor battle on Saturday.

Loomis Chaffee (7-1-1) is playing a lot better than a #6 ranked team. The Pelicans could easily be higher. They returned with wins over BB&N (4-0) and Berkshire (9-0). Loomis will give Kent a battle on Wednesday, then it will be Hotchkiss on Saturday.

#7 Williston (8-3-0) was very impressive in rolling to the title at the Winchendon New Year’s Tournament before falling Saturday to Tabor. The Wildcats also have a three-game week, taking on Berkshire (Wednesday), St. Mark’s (Friday) and Gunnery (Saturday).

Phillips Andover (4-2-0) moves up a spot just by being idle. The Big Blue are scheduled to face Brooks Monday and St. Paul’s Saturday, both tough ones.

Lawrence Academy (7-5-0) jumps into the poll at #9. The Spartans went 2-1 at the Winchendon Tournament, and then doubled up Cushing (6-3).  This week’s docket has St. Mark’s (Wednesday), Pomfret (Friday) and Brooks (Saturday).

Also new this week is #10 Taft (6-3-0). The Rhinos posted wins over Hill School (6-2) and Westminster (2-0). Pomfret (Wednesday) and Choate (Saturday) provide this week’s opposition.
