Final Boys Prep Top 15: Elite Tournament champ Kimball Union takes final #1 spot

Kimball Union (30-5-2) won its second straight Boys Prep Elite Tournament championship, holding off Salisbury 3-2 in an exciting title game. The Wildcats also hit the 30-win plateau for the second straight season, and finish #1 in the HNIB News Boys Prep Top 15 for the second straight year.

Pre-season #1 Salisbury (25-2-1) had the impressive season everyone envisioned, except for coming up one goal short in the title game. The Crimson Knights finish the at #2.

#3 Rivers (27-2-2) lost some key players from last winter’s Elite Tournamant finalist. but just reloaded and had an outstanding season. They took KUA to overtime in the Elite Tournament semifinals.

Brunswick (18-12-4) finishes the year at #8 after an eye-opening run to the Large School championship, beating Williston, Northfield and Thayer along the way.

Small School Tournament champion Lawrence Academy (21-10-1) closes out the 2017-18 season at #9. The Spartans beat St. Mark’s, Gunnery and New Hampton in the Small School Tournament and closed the season winning 14 of their last 17 games.

Gary Demopoulos has been covering prep school hockey for the HNIB News for over 25 years, and has been the editor of the HNIB News since 2005. A former sportswriter and news editor at the Woburn (MA) Times Chronicle, he has been the HNIB News' key reporter for womens hockey, both at the prep school and high school levels. Gary also helps organize and oversee HNIB's many summer tournaments and festivals for scholastic players.
